An exciting new collaboration between Opera North and Phoenix Dance Theatre based on one of the most operatic of Handel’s English oratorios.
Handel’s touch is light, but this is a story with a dark heart and strong contemporary resonance: Susanna is the victim of two powerful, predatory men out to destroy her reputation; yet her strength and steadfastness win out in the end.
Choreographed by Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director, Marcus Jarrell Willis, in collaboration with Director Olivia Fuchs, dance and opera combine in a reimagining of the Susanna and the Elders biblical story, from which emerges a biting parable for our times.
