This September we are excited to welcome the award-winning Open Clasp to The Picture House for the first time with their first major international production.
Co-created with sex work activists from Aotearoa/New Zealand, Ireland and the UK, Mycelial was originally performed live in 2023 in association with Northern Stage before being adapted as theatre for film in 2024.
Mycelial provides a reality check on assumptions the world makes of those involved in sex work. It asks audiences to step into the shoes of people who are the most disenfranchised from society, who face stigma and hate, to consider the intersectionality of sex workers who are also trans, seeking asylum, Black and other people of colour.
After this screening we will be joined by members of the creative team involved in producing Mycelial to discuss the work and explore themes involved in the production.
