On Christmas Eve, a family gathers for what could be the last holiday together in their home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for their own kind, finding a new wintery wonderland of freedom and joy.
That is, if they can avoid being caught by a wonderfully deadpan cop Michael Cera and his fellow morose partner.
In the same spirit of Christmas as The Holdovers (2023), which we’re also screening, this festive off-beat drama is perceptive in how a multi-generational family manages the joys and tensions (as we all do) as they gather for their traditional Christmas Eve dinner in Long Island.
