All the President's Men and The Way We Were
For our traditional New Year’s Eve Double Bill, we’re celebrating the life and work of the greatly missed Robert Redford, with two classic films from his long career.
All the President’s Men (1975)
Based on the 1974 book by Washington Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein, Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman playing the two journalists, investigate political intrigue, anonymous sources, covert operations and cover ups in a political thriller about the Watergate scandal that brought down president Richard Nixon.
Redford read Woodward and Bernstein’s Watergate stories in The Washington Post, while waiting to start filming The Way We Were, which is the second film in our double bill!
The Way We Were (1973)
Set in the turbulent McCarthy era, Katie and Hubbell are on opposite sides of the political and social spectrum, but despite (and perhaps because of) this, they fall in love with each other. Soon though, Katie’s radical thinking and Hubbell’s carefree lifestyle begin to hamper their relationship.
