Leeds 400
On 13 July 2026, Leeds marks a major milestone – 400 years since receiving its first Royal Charter from King Charles I. This historic moment began the city’s journey towards self‑governance and, ultimately, city status.
Today, Leeds is a vibrant, diverse and culturally rich place. Leeds 400 is a year‑long celebration inviting everyone to come together and honour the city’s heritage while looking ahead to its future, with themes spanning culture, heritage, sport, learning, communities, innovation and beyond.
Leeds Heritage Theatres – a charity rooted in the city’s cultural life – is proud to align itself with Leeds 400, offering the following shows, films and events as part of the programme.

Leeds Grand Theatre Buildings Fund
As a Grade II listed building, we want to preserve Leeds Grand Theatre for future generations, making it more accessible, sustainable, and comfortable. Everything we do will enhance your customer experience. All donations will be fully invested in ongoing projects, including improved access facilities, changing our lighting to LED, and a new Flying system.
