Make a lasting impact on culture and learning in Leeds

Leeds Heritage Theatres is seeking a new Trustee to join its Board at an exciting time. We’re particularly interested in hearing from individuals with professional experience in education, creative learning, and safeguarding to support our growing commitment to inclusive engagement, youth participation, and safe cultural spaces.

As a Trustee, you’ll help shape the future of one of the city’s most important cultural organisations – supporting live performance, film, and creative learning across our three historic venues: Leeds Grand Theatre, City Varieties Music Hall, and Hyde Park Picture House.

What Trustees do

Our Trustees play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of Leeds Heritage Theatres. As custodians of the charity’s mission, they:

  • Ensure that the organisation operates transparently, legally and sustainably
  • Provide constructive challenge and support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team
  • Uphold high standards in ethical, financial, and cultural governance
  • Help build connections that broaden our reach and impact
  • Advocate for the role of the arts in civic life, education, and wellbeing

About the role – Creative Learning and Safeguarding Trustee

We are looking for a Trustee who brings experience and insight in one or more of the following areas:

  • Leadership in the education sector, including schools, FE/HE institutions or youth services
  • Knowledge of arts-based pedagogy and creative learning methodologies
  • Experience with education and culture policy, or involvement in cultural learning partnerships

This Trustee will serve as our Board Safeguarding Lead, helping to ensure that our work with young people and vulnerable groups is safe, inclusive and aligned with best practice.

Prior experience as a Trustee is not essential—what matters most is your commitment to our vision and values.

Terms of Appointment

Term: Three years (renewable for up to nine years in total)

Time Commitment: Approx. one day/month, including Board meetings, subcommittees, and occasional events

Remuneration: Voluntary role; reasonable expenses reimbursed

Location: Primarily Leeds-based, with some flexibility for hybrid meetings
