World Theatre Day 2022

Happy World Theatre Day!

In celebration, we’re looking forward to the returning favourites, brand-new productions, and show-stopping musicals, dramas, comedians, musicians and variety acts coming to Leeds Heritage Theatres this year.

Back by popular demand, the SIX queens return to dazzle their royal subjects for one week only before we welcome three more hit shows in April including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical School of Rock, the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, and outrageous musical comedy The Book of Mormon.

‘The sexiest musical ever’ (Metro), CHICAGO, heats things up in May with its sassy sexy score before Opera North begins their summer residency, which includes their first Parsifal.

In June, let your soul sing as Dreamgirls arrives direct from the West End followed by one of the world’s most beloved family musicals, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, fresh from the London Palladium.

Continuing a summer of sensational shows are smash hit Jersey Boys, multi-award winning Derren Brown: Showman and the first ever professional UK tour of Bugsy Malone.

As November creeps in, experience the must-see theatrical event of the year with Chichester Festival Theatre’s landmark production of South Pacific; warm your heart with a feel-good voyage about friendship, community and music with Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical; then storm the barricades for a ticket to Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Misérables.

Just in time for Christmas, Northern Ballet returns with the ultimate festive ballet, The Nutcracker, and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto is back at City Varieties Music Hall with Dick Whittington.

Throughout the year, catch ‘one night only’ events from some of the UK’s biggest comedians including Jack Dee, Rob Beckett, Russell Kane, Kevin Bridges, Joanne McNally and Dara O’Briain, as well as music and dance from the likes of Jane McDonald, Oti Mabuse, Lost In Music and Sixties Gold.

Don’t forget our hidden gem across the road as City Varieties brings a wide range of shows to suit all tastes. With everything from comedy and live music to screenings, talks and burlesque, there’s something for everyone at the nation’s longest-running music hall!
