Join Our Team - Housekeeper (Cleaner) (casual)
Purpose of job
We are looking to appoint a Housekeeper on a casual basis. The role exists to support the Housekeeping team in keeping our venues clean, safe, and welcoming. This includes carrying out cleaning and tidying tasks, identifying any defects, and following established procedures to report them.
Housekeepers will maintain high standards of cleaning within the venues, whilst adhering to the Charity’s Health and Safety Policy and complying with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
You may be asked to work at either of our city centre venues (Leeds Grand Theatre or City Varieties Music Hall). The work of the Housekeeping Team is vital in making sure that the thousands of visitors that pass through the venues have a wonderful experience.

Work requires the ability to lift/carry objects of weights between 15lbs and 50lbs on a regular basis. Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc) or team lifts should be utilised when possible.
Work requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity, and the ability to stand for long periods of time.

Salary: £12.71 per hour
Holiday entitlement: Four weeks plus bank holiday entitlement

- You will need to have frequent availability to work at the times we are likely to be able to offer work. Tell us when you are likely to be available most weeks. Tick all that apply. Monday 8am-12pm, Tuesday 8am-12pm, Wednesday 8am-12pm, Thursday 8am-12pm, Friday 8am-12pm, Saturday 8am-12pm, Sunday 8am-12pm.
- We may, occasionally, also be able to offer work for pick-ups – tidying up between shows. Pick-ups are normally between 4.30pm and 7pm (2 hours depending on running times of shows). Tell us when you are likely to be available most weeks. Tick all that apply. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday.
- We may, occasionally, be able to offer work on Sundays from 8am to 12pm. Would you be likely to be available at that time most weeks? There is no requirement to be available on Sundays, however this is desirable. If we need to choose between a number of equally good applicants we may use this information to make that choice.
- What cleaning tasks have experience of, and which you are most confident with? You’ll see a list of the tasks you are likely to be asked to do in the job description. You can use examples from either paid work or other cleaning you have done (for example at home, or as a volunteer). Do let us know when and where you got your experience.
- Describe a time when you helped a team complete a job quickly. Try to tell us in your example what you personally did to help get the job done.
- Are you able to carry out the physical duties of the role, including standing, bending, lifting, and walking for extended periods?
