Leeds Heritage Theatres is looking for new Trustees to join its Board

Our Trustees help steer our organisation towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the Charity has adequate resources to advance its mission and vision. As custodians of the charity’s vision, Trustees are responsible for ensuring that we remain focused on our objectives, operate transparently, and use our resources effectively. They provide both challenge and support to the CEO and senior leadership team, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.  

The Board is also instrumental in broadening and strengthening our reach and networks, using their connections to unlock new opportunities and partnerships. This commitment and oversight help to ensure the charity’s resilience and relevance both in our city and nationally.

We are currently looking for Trustees to fill these specific skill sets:

Finance

We are seeking a Trustee with proven experience and sound judgement in the following areas:

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, preparation of statutory accounts, and management of reserves, ensuring robust financial planning and stewardship
  • Audit, Risk, and Governance Proficiency: Extensive experience in establishing and maintaining effective internal controls, as well as implementing comprehensive risk management frameworks to safeguard organisational assets
  • Board-Level Oversight and Constructive Challenge: Ability to provide informed oversight and constructive scrutiny, thereby supporting sound decision-making and driving organisational performance
  • Regulatory and Compliance Acumen: In-depth awareness of charity governance and compliance requirements within publicly funded sectors, ensuring adherence to statutory obligations
  • Effective Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in articulating complex financial matters and influencing stakeholders across internal and external audiences in a clear, professional manner
  • Integrity, Discretion, and Conflict Management: Upholds the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality, demonstrating sound judgement in the management of conflicts of interest

Legal

We are seeking a Trustee with substantial senior-level legal experience, who brings sound judgement, perspective and a strong understanding of organisational governance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised legal qualification and a proven track record working at a senior level, for example within a leading law firm or equivalent environment
  • Broad legal experience, with the ability to navigate a range of issues and provide balanced, proportionate advice in a complex organisational setting
  • The confidence to contribute constructively at Board level, offering both support and appropriate challenge, with a clear understanding of good governance and decision-making
  • Experience of working with, or advising, organisations with multiple stakeholders, helping to balance ambition with responsibility
  • Strong professional networks and the credibility to act as an ambassador for the organisation, supporting relationship-building and, where appropriate, opening up opportunities for partnership and support

Salary and Benefits

This is a voluntary position where reasonable expense can be paid.

Contract Type: Trustees will be appointed for a three-year term of office with an option for renewal for a further two terms to a maximum of nine years.
